Shillong Golf Course, situated 4 km from Shillong Bus Stand in Meghalaya, is renowned as one of India’s finest golf courses. Established in 1898 as a 9-hole course by British Civil Service Officers, it was expanded to 18 Holes in 1924. Perched at an altitude of 5200 feet, it is the third oldest golf course in India according to the 1933 survey. Spanning 5873 yards with a par of 70, its tight fairways challenge golfers with indigenous grass. The sixth hole, at 594 yards, is the country’s farthest. Nestled in a scenic valley surrounded by pine and rhododendron trees, the course is a haven for diverse bird species. Recognized as the ‘Gleneagle of the East’ by the United States Golf Association and Museum, the Shillong Golf Course hosts annual tournaments, attracting golfers nationwide to showcase their skills amid its picturesque landscapes.
